Urban consumption of fresh produce per capita continues to decline. In supermarkets, many consumers routinely choose fruits and vegetables that are out of season, losing their connection with the land and its natural cycles.
Yayapp bridges tradition and technology, helping users make better choices without sacrificing convenience. The name comes from yaya, the Spanish word for grandmother, a figure that embodies inherited knowledge and a deep understanding of food and its cycles.
1. Information exists, but engagement rarely does

We came to this realisation by asking uncomfortable questions. Why do people buy strawberries in winter and feel fine about it? Through interviews, surveys, and a healthy amount of desk research, we mapped habits, misconceptions, and the real reasons convenience usually wins over awareness. Data is great, but only if it changes behavior.

We gathered quantitative data through a group of 70 people, and interviewed 4 of them for qualitative input on the matter.

Based on the interviews and survey, we classified consumers in four archetypes along two axis: Gastronomic interest and awareness. We also mapped consumer habits within the archetypes to identify pain points.

2. Designing Without Killing the Mood

Yayapp had to educate without becoming preachy. We designed interactions that introduce knowledge progressively, using micro-feedback and contextual hints instead of long explanations. Information appears when it is useful, then politely steps aside.

3. Prototype, Test, Repeat

From quick sketches to high-fidelity prototypes, each round clarified decisions and improved flow. Prototypes, the Rosetta stone between design, product and development.

Encouraging long-term change
Yayapp goes beyond solving an immediate functional need. By integrating learning, community, and motivation mechanisms, the project seeks to generate long-term behavioral change. Achievements, shared progress, and informative content transform individual actions into a collective experience, reinforcing commitment and continuity.
